Collecting gum wrappers is not very common and not very popular around the world. However, with the proliferation of the Internet, you can meet and communicate with people from different countries. Now living in the Czech Republic, USA, Chile, Japan and Korea, friends who collect gum wrappers. The hobby of collecting gum wrappers was popular in the USSR in the 70's and 80's, but recently people living in the former Soviet republics don't collect gum wrappers very much. But now I am very happy that there are many younger collectors as well as older collectors like me. Speaking more about the Czech Republic, it is quite surprising that collecting gum wrappers has become so popular in the Czech Republic. The Prague Collectors' Club has a Gum Wrapper Collector's Club, which I became a member of. I met members of these clubs before the spread of the internet, and met again in 2011 while traveling around the Czech Republic (7-12). By the way, the largest collection of gum wrappers is in the Czech Republic.
After a trip to the Czech Republic, I became even more diligent in collecting and made another dream come true. This dream was to go to Japan. I went to Japan to meet old letter friends and to participate in a television program called “TV Asahi” for “Gum Day” (13-19), which is celebrated in Japan on 1st June. Besides, I started collecting Japanese gum wrappers. Even today, Japanese gum wrappers are the most numerous in my collection. Japan, Korea, and China also have a lot of chewing gum in the Far East, but the gum wrapper draws the attention of collectors because it features drawings of lotus flowers or computer games. I've been to Korea, but I haven't been to China yet, so I have a close goal of going to China. It's difficult to find the wrapping paper you need in China, which is so big, but you can buy chewing gum from China in other countries as well. For example, I once bought Chinese gum in Cambodia and my friend bought the same gum in Mongolia. However, gum is not produced in Mongolia. There are not many countries in the world that produce gum, but it is growing. Recently (20-21) started producing gum in Ethiopia and Nepal.
Speaking of chewing gum history, chewing gum is a product patented in the United States in the 19th century. I also have gum wrappers produced on February 14, 1871 (6). This wrapping paper is the oldest in my collection. There are also gum wrappers produced at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries (22-23). However, most of the gum wrappers in my collection are not old and were made during the last 40 years. Unlike me, there are many collectors who only collect chewing gum packaging that was produced before 1940.
They exchange wrappers with others to find new chewing gum wrappers. On rare occasions, you may even be able to buy other collectors' collectibles. Some people even give away their collections as gifts. I collect coins, postage stamps, calling cards, packs of cigarettes, chocolate wrappers, etc. in exchange for a collector who collects stuffing outside gum wrappers. I think it's fun to see other collectibles, but sometimes I regret having to give them other collectibles to get new gum wrappers. Now I also have a collection of transport cards used in Samara, (24) I created a web page called “Samara Transport Cards”. We also have calling cards and chocolate wrappers, but the large collectibles make it inconvenient to create web pages. I'm short on time, so I'm running only a catalog of gum wrappers on the internet.
You can even find new chewing gum wrappers when you go abroad. In Russia, it is rare to find something new, but recently there are more and more companies producing chewing gum. Especially if you want to trade it with other collectors, you will need to buy a new gum wrapper. You can even take part in an auction on the Internet to buy new wrapping paper.
I live in Samara. My family is my wife, daughter, granddaughter and me. Working outside collecting gum wrappers.
Are you a collector? Are you collecting anything else? Would you like to exchange with me for mutual benefit? Do you have a collection of gum wrappers? Reluctant to cooperate. Please contact us.
