Welcome to the website of the Chewing Gum Covers Collector. If you happen to be here, do not leave immediately. Maybe, my hobby “collecting chewing gum wrappers” will interest you.
Chewing gum as a product has an independent cover - from a small paper wrapper to a machine for sale. I collect everything related to the topic of "chewing gum". In general, several types of collectibles are common on the subject of "chewing gum":
- Covers and packs (without chewing gum inside) (No. 1).
Appendices (pictures inside the cover) (No. 2).
- Chewing gum packs (closed, with chewing gum inside) (No. 3).
- Things related to chewing gum (machines for sale, sales facilities, advertisements, etc.) (No. 4).
But the subject that fascinates me is "covers and packs of chewing gum", and here too there is a main and favorite sub-theme: "covers of chewing gum in a classic flat form" (No. 5). Only on this subject do I make a detailed catalog and give each cover its own number. As of today (June 5, 2015) in my collection there are 42,916 chewing gum wrappers in a classic flat shape. While the entire collection currently includes about 88,000 covers of chewing gum made by various companies from 126 countries around the world. These numbers may seem imaginary, but do not forget, that all this has been collected for almost 40 years, and also that my collection is not the largest in the world, there are stronger collections.
Chewing gum is a familiar thing to everyone. But few know, that wrapping collectibles can be a serious hobby and not child's play. This subject really fascinated me from childhood, in the early 70's, although I was involved in other types of collectibles (stamps, match notes, coins and others). Later collecting chewing gum wrappers became my main hobby for many years. My childhood was spent in the city of Sevastopol (a port city on the Black Sea, now in Ukraine). Then there was no chewing gum in the Soviet Union. Sailors brought it from abroad. Precisely the lack of chewing gum in the USSR has caused increased interest in this product. However, it was not the chewing process itself that aroused the interest, but drawings and comics painted on the covers. They were strange and unusual for the children of the USSR. The most expensive in the eyes of the children were Japanese covers with all kinds of giants, dinosaurs, robots. By the way, the covers from Japan and then from Korea have remained for me to this day the favorite theme because of the bright and colorful design, a wide range of images and a large number of series.
More than that, the chewing gums from Japan and Korea are, without a doubt, of the most varied flavors, among them there are flavors that have nothing like them.
In 2002 I was in Seoul, until now I can not forget the feeling I had, and it is the feeling of a human being who has found a treasure. In the evening I wandered around Seoul, went into kiosks hoping to find new chewing gum, and then went back to a hotel with full pockets.
In general, chewing gum is a fairly old product, the rights to which were reserved as early as the middle of the 19th century in the United States. My collection has a chewing gum box dated February 14, 1871. This is the oldest item in my collection (No. 6).
Today my collection is filled mainly as a result of exchanges between me and my colleagues from the Czech Republic, Canada, Chile, USA, Japan, Korea. I also have to engage in other types of collectibles for exchanges with collectors who deal in other types of collectibles (coins, stamps, phone cards, packs of cigarettes, chocolate wrappers, etc.). Sometimes I manage to buy small old collections with the help of newspaper ads.
And finally a little about myself: Nossal Valerie, married, I have a married daughter who lives alone, I already have a granddaughter. There is another cat and a dog, in my free time from the hobby I work. (No. 7 - No. 10).
Are you a collector? Do you deal with another topic of collectibles? Do you want to make exchanges with me? Do you have an old collection of chewing gum wrappers? I am ready for any kind of cooperation. Please contact me
